Online Dating DOES work

My name is Kimberly, and I am a soon-to-be mother of a beautiful baby girl - a biological miracle resulting from - you guessed it - online dating.

This all started when I decided last summer that it was time I quit the self-centered life. You know what I'm talking about -- out drinking every night with friends; no serious responsibilities; different guy every month. So, I did what every thirty-something, career driven woman looking for love does: I registered for the 2 most respected online dating sites I knew. Soon Match.com and e-harmony.com were the 2 most visited website on my computer. I sneaked a peek every time I got a wink, or a message, or answers to my carefully chosen, e-harmony dictated questions. I think it's fair to say that I was an online addict, a junkie, for a good 6 months.

Now, I can't speak for all women, but MY experiences with these 2 sites were significantly different. My "wizard" friends (I will explain another time) would probably say that it was my own mentality differing between the sites. For whatever reason, Match.com brought me one-night stands, and e-harmony brought me quality guys that may-or-may-not have be ready for a serious commitment at that time.

I gave up 2x on each site. Membership would expire,  and I didn't see the point in reinvesting the time OR money. Then, a week would go by, and I guess my attention addiction would drive me to "try one more time." Thank G__d for e-harmony's $19.95 for 3 months deal, or I would not be where I am today.

So, I signed up for my 3rd stint, and away I went... again. Same ol' routine -
See a picture --> he's fairly good looking, not a Ken Doll, but not the Hunch Back of Notre Dame (NEXT)
Read his profile --> doesn't SOUND like a nutcase, a jackass, an arrogant prick
(NEXT)
Wink......... wait............. he responds
(NEXT)
Answer questions (note to self: Be cute, but intelligent; Be witty, but humble. Choose words wisely)

Back and forth
Back and forth

Until you finally get to the point where you're emailing freely... and that's where the fun starts......

  1. I totally understand all of this, because I met my boyfriend (definitely future husband) on Match.com and I am always trying to convince people to sign up! It is such an amazing advance in technology.. and in dating, an experience which was definitely in need of a major upgrade.
